* * * Product Advisory: Potential for loss of data on
Hard Drive * * *
ISSUE: Data loss can occur if a user deletes a ViewWise
Input Tray folder with the
'Allow delete at source' option enabled in the Input Tray's settings,
and the
Input Tray folder contains one or more documents.
The user right-clicks on the input tray folder and selects
delete, and then
chooses Yes from the warning confirmation dialog that appears, ViewWise
will
attempt to delete ALL content in the folder's configured path and
the folder.
For example; If the user configured an Input Tray folder
to point to C:\, then
deleted the folder, ViewWise would attempt to delete all files
in path C:\.
RESOLUTIONS:
- Re-configuring the Desktop Client Input
Tray settings:
To reduce the risk of data loss, verify all ViewWise
5.5 SP0 Desktop Clients
in your organization do not have input tray queues
configured to root paths,
such as C:\, or SYSTEM paths, such as C:\WINDOWS. Additionally
verify that
the Input Tray settings do not have 'allow delete at source'
enabled.
- Patching the Desktop Client installation:
Computhink is providing a patch for the ViewWise 5.5
SP0 Desktop Client that
will prevent any Input Tray folders from being configured
to select a ROOT
path (i.e. C:\), or a SYSTEM path (i.e. C:\WINDOWS). The
patch will also
remove the ability to right-click and select the 'delete'
menu option from
the input tray folder.
