Computhink Eliminates Paper Mountains and Boosts Efficiency at Will County
Lombard, IL, March 31, 2003 – Computhink, a leading provider of integrated document management (IDM) and imaging solutions, announced the licensing of its ViewWise software products to Will County, the fastest growing county in Illinois, and the 37th fastest in the US. Will County has set up ViewWise to manage and store all electronic records, in order to cut storage space, costs and to improve efficiency.
Will County executive and staff are working very diligently to bring paperless work environments throughout the county. Joseph Mikan, County Executive at Will County, states, “Centralization of record keeping has given back valuable space to offices for utilization by staff members serving the citizens of Will County and has increased efficiency by allowing information to be retrieved rapidly.”
Will County has already scanned in all paperwork documentation related to accounts payable, which can now be electronically accessed, searched and archived across all County users on the system. ViewWise provides a secure vault for keeping records online, some of which have to be retained for up to 10 years.
"When scanning became an acceptable medium for storage in 2000 it afforded us the opportunity to lessen the amount of paper copies we produce, increasing efficiency for internal departments, as well as deliver better service to our customers, the citizens of Will County," said Lynn Behringer, Director of Records Management at Will County. "Due to our growth we have offices at eight different locations, and scanning allows us to manage records for various departments at one location, yet making them accessible to all departments at their location,” Behringer added.
Will County assessed three finalist vendors on ease of use, flexibility and cost. Computhink’s ViewWise, an integrated document management and image enabling solution, was selected for its multiple layers of high security and its ease of integration with other electronic data sources.
"Local government has to retain records for extended periods and often make these records available upon demand. But that doesn't mean everyone has to have a paper copy filed away, which rapidly becomes both physically unmanageable, and inefficient to use," said John Torkelson, CEO of Computhink. "ViewWise means Will County can save space, time, travel and money. It also provides the high levels of security that the county requires with flexible layers of both data encryption and access control."
Will County expects to roll out the IDM applications to at least one new departmental user area each month. The next initiative will enable the county jail to scan and store inmate records electronically.
