Computhink’s ViewWise 5.5 Delivers Comprehensive Document Management in Secure Intranet/Internet Environments
New Features include DjVu®, AdminWise and advanced Viewing functions
Lombard, IL, January 15, 2003 – Computhink further cements its position as a leader in integrated document management (IDM) today with the release of ViewWise 5.5. The new release extends Computhink's product line of IDM and image-enabling solutions with specific emphasis on the small to medium-sized enterprise market (SME).

The ViewWise 5.5 IDM systems are designed to simplify the data management process of all file formats and maximize productivity. They offer intuitive user interfaces, immediate access to versions/revisions, new focused search interface complemented by full text and distributed search, searchable document comments, automatic email for sending documents to a predetermined address, consolidated document listing, and document check-in/out for mobile computing.
ViewWise 5.5 marks the debut of Computhink's AdminWise module, which significantly enhances the administrator’s overall control of document, system and support utilities. Features include an array of configuration and definition, monitoring, and control features such as backup and restore, extensive audit trails, Recycle Bin override, user monitoring, and the ability to override or reset redaction passwords.
With the addition of Stellent’s Outside In® technology to ViewWise 5.5, client options now include advanced viewing capabilities for 225 native file formats, such as Microsoft Word and Excel documents, without the native application being present.
DjVu®, a new file format that significantly compresses files to up to one-tenth of their previous size, complements ViewWise 5.5. scanning and file conversion capabilities. Users can now digitally capture, save, email, and export large, high-resolution documents in DjVu file format, significantly alleviating bandwidth and file transfer issues.
The previous ViewWise Online client has been replaced by three new online client options.- “ViewWise Web Client” - the standard browser-based zero foot print
- “ViewWise Web Plus” - extended Viewer capabilities for both documents and annotations
- “ViewWise Web-top” – Web Plus client with full Desktop output options and OCR
New ViewWise Office functionality for Microsoft Office applications (2000 & XP) - save the file in its native file format straight to ViewWise by simply selecting the ViewWise Icon now visible on the office application tool bar.
This is especially useful for Outlook users as it quickly and easily enables the selection and saving of single or multiple emails complete with any applicable attached files. The email is saved in HTML format and the attached file(s) are added as additional pages yet retaining original attached file format.
The new ViewWise Service Agent provides the additional functionality of Full Text Search preparation of designated documents and the Automatic check in of e-Work (workflow) documents.
ViewWise 5.5 now supports the latest security models and database releases, including MS 2000, ADS, NDS/eDirectory 8.6.2, MS SQL 7.0/2000, and Oracle 9i.
ViewWise 5.5 also features comprehensive upgrades across all optional connectors, specifically:
Both the GroupWise® Connector and the e-Work Connector - that respectively provide the integration with Novell’s GroupWise® application and MetaStorm’s eWork® workflow application have been significantly upgraded. A new optional Auto-eWork to ViewWise check-in service has been provided, which runs under the new ViewWise Service Agent.
ViewWise/Contactwise Integration - A new seamless integration has been added to Contactwise® (CRM software for Novell’s Groupwise) from Grouplink®.
ViewWise 5.5 is developed in partnership with Microsoft®, Novell®, Xerox®, Scansoft®, Leadtools®, Lizard Tech®, Unisys®, Stellent®, Pixel Translations® and Metastorm®. ViewWise applications run native on Novell 6.0 and Microsoft 2000/XP platforms.
